Meteora Monasteries - The Varlaam Monastery in Meteora, Greece is one of the four active male monasteries and the second-largest of its kind in the region. This holy site was founded by Varlaam, a monk who originally lived as a hermit in a cave and later built a chapel on top of a rocky formation. The church was further expanded and renovated by the brother monks Theofanis and Nektarios Apsaradas. To reach the male monastery of Varlaam, visitors must climb 195 steps carved into the rock from the main road. The Varlaam Monastery is renowned for its breathtaking frescoes and features a museum. It is regarded as a significant church in Meteora and a must-visit destination for travelers.
