The Mines of Thassos in Greece can be found along the scenic coastline of Metallia Beach. Once an iron processing factory, these mines were first operationalized by a German company in 1905. However, production was halted during the First World War and only resumed in 1925. Unfortunately, financial troubles during the 1930s led to another partial shutdown, and eventually, all activities ceased in 1963. Despite its history, the Mines of Thassos remain a popular attraction for visitors to Greece.
