Tripoli Churches & Monasteries - Located in the northeast of Kastri, the Tanos River gorge boasts the magnificent Timiou Prodromou Monastery. Erected on a steep rock face during the 12th century, this monastery has played a crucial role in the history of the Peloponnese region. The monastery's inaccessible location proved to be a valuable asset during the Greek revolution in 1821, serving as a formidable resistance base against Ibrahim's forces. Additionally, the monastery provided shelter during his raids, with its water mill even grinding gunpowder during this time. Notably, Timiou Prodromou Monastery was the only monastery to withstand the siege laid by Ibrahim's troops. Despite being besieged twice, it remained unconquered, making it a significant relic of the region's historical past.
