Tinos Churches & Monasteries - Located in the charming village of Isternia in Tinos, Greece, the Katapoliani Monastery is a must-visit pilgrimage site on the island. Although no nuns currently reside there, this historic women’s monastery dates back to the late 18th century when it was founded by Sister Melanthia. Sister Melanthia, who hailed from a wealthy family in Crete, was previously a nun at the famous church of Ekatontapyliani in Paros before moving to Tinos to establish a new monastery. The Katapoliani Monastery is named after a variation of the church of Ekatontapyliani in Paros. Be sure to visit the Monastery of Katapoliani on September 1st to witness their annual celebration.
