Kefalonia Churches & Monasteries - Kipouria Monastery in Kefalonia, Greece is a stunning architectural marvel, situated 15 km from Lixouri. This picturesque monastery is perched atop the cliffs on the west coast of the Lixouri peninsula, offering breathtaking views of the sea. Surrounded by nature and trees, Kipouria Monastery is an isolated haven of peace and tranquility. To reach the monastery, visitors can start from the villages of Kaminarata or Havdata and we highly recommend arriving in time for sunset, as the sun sets into the sea in front of the monastery's terrace.
The name "Kipouria" has its roots in "kipos" (land, vegetable garden), as the monks cultivated all the lands around the monastery to support themselves. Built in the seventeenth century, the monastery of Kaminarata in Kefalonia boasts a church built by Chrysanthos Petropoulos in 1759, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin and the exaltation of the Holy Cross.
