The first women's monastery in the Metropolis of Messinia with a history of more than 200 years is that of the Monastery of Kalogreon, dedicated to Sts Constantine and Helen. It is located in the center of Kalamata, very close to the metropolis of Ypapanti, under the Castle of the Messinian capital.
It is known as the Monastery of Kalogreon, because at the end of the 18th century, when the hometown of Kalamata  hosted hundreds of girls from the surrounding areas, the Monastery supported the inhabitants of the area  many times by monks either during the Occupation or most recently in the 1986 earthquake.
