Ithaca Churches - Located 6 km from Anogi village, at an elevation of 566m, is the Panagia Kathariotissa Church in Ithaca, Greece. The church is dedicated to Ithaca's patron saint and celebrates its name day on September 8th. Originally constructed in 1696, the monastery was built a few years later and was active until the 1980s. While the monastery no longer houses monks, it's open to visitors during the summer and provides hospitality. The Virgin Mary's icon is believed to have been painted by the Evangelist, Loukas.
