Agia Moni Monastery in Kythira, Greece
The Monastery of Agia Moni stands on a high mountain above the village of Diakofti. The monastery was restored after it was destroyed by the Ottomans in the 19th century. Theodoros Kolokotronis , one of the famous generals and heroes of the Greek Revolution, made a promise to Virgin Mary to restore the monastery if he had won the war. The monastery of Agia Moni in Kythira is opened for pilgrims who wish to worship and stay for the fasting period of the fifteen days in August. Every August 6th, the traditional celebration in honor of the Savior is held in the monastery.
