Chania Beaches - Elafonisi Beach in Crete, also known as Elafonisos, is amongst the most famous and exotic destinations in Crete. Located 76 km west of Chania and in close proximity to the Monastery of Hrisoskalitissa, Elafonisi Beach is something of a unique island and peninsula hybrid. To reach the island, visitors must walk through the shallow turquoise waters of the sea. The beach at Elafonisi is also a part of the "Natura 2000" program and is a protected area. What sets this area apart are the stunning sand islets, the fine white sand, and the pinkish hue that can be observed at various spots due to the crushed shell powder.
