Heraklion Sights & Monuments - The Minoan Palace of Malia, located near Malia town in Crete, is the third-largest Minoan palace on the island. Situated by the sea on the road connecting eastern and central Crete, it offers a breathtaking backdrop to explore the secrets of this ancient wonder. According to historians, the palace was first constructed in approximately 1900 BC and transformed the surrounding settlement into a grand palace city. Although the initial palace was destroyed around 1700 BC, it was rebuilt on the same site and with the same layout by 1650 BC. Sadly, the new palace was destroyed in 1450 BC and left unoccupied. Today, visitors can see the remains of the Neopalatial complex, which includes the Central Court, the North Court, and the Tower Court. Most of the ruins visible today are from the second palace, and you can also see a small building from the Mycenean era that was built in the ruins. To experience life in ancient Crete, don't miss the chance to explore this remarkable Minoan Palace in Malia.
