Kythnos Sights & Monuments - Oria Castle, situated on the north side of Kythnos, Greece, was once the medieval capital of the island. At an elevation of 250m, Oria Castle stands in ruins with impressive views. Although archaeological excavations have not yet begun, it is believed to have been founded in the 7th century AD, replacing the abandoned Vriokastro as the new capital. Unfortunately, in the 16th century, the castle was conquered by the Turks, and the inhabitants were forced to leave. Despite its ruined state, Oria Castle remains a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Kythnos.
