Kos Sights & Monuments - Loggia Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Gazi Hassan Pasha, is a historic mosque located in the heart of the Old Town of Kos, Greece. Built in 1786 by the admiral and commander of the islands, this rectangular two-story building was constructed with materials from the ancient city of Kos, following the traditional practices of temple and building construction of its time. Believed to have been built on the site of the Byzantine church of Agiou Georgiou, the mosque boasts a stunning 10-sided Muslim Moorish-style white marble fountain where worshippers wash their feet before entering the interior. The mosque features sixty windows that allow natural light to enter, and a towering minaret in the northwestern part adorned with the relief of the Nemean lion and a headless statue of a lion, both cut off from the temple of Hercules.
