Originally built in 1826 by British Commissioner Frederic Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife, Nina Palatianou, the palace is surrounded by lush greenery and a magnificent park. Over time, Mon Repos Palace became the favored summer residence of British governors in Corfu, until it was gifted to King George of Greece after the Ionian Islands' unification in 1864. During the Second World War, the palace served as the residence of Parini, the Italian governor of the Ionian Islands while under Italian occupation.
