Argos Sights & Monuments - Larissa Acropolis in Argos, Peloponnese is a historic site located in the western part of Argos. Legend has it that Larissa, the daughter of Pelasgos, inspired its name. Constructed in the 6th century BC, it is notable for being the birthplace of the temples of Athena Poliada and Zeus of Larisa. The Acropolis was later replaced by the Castle of Larissa, a medieval castle that now dominates the hill, and played a crucial role in the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
