Galissas
Galissas, located on the west side of Syros Island, is a popular coastal village among tourists. Just 7 km from Ermoupolis, it boasts a beautiful beach with fine sand and a small harbor lined with palm trees and a stone pier. Accommodations are plentiful, with a variety of organized hotels, campsites, rooms, and apartments available, all within close proximity to tavernas and cafes. Atop a small hill overlooking the beach, you'll find the ancient chapel of St. Pakous. Galissas is believed to have been a fortified town around this hill and is considered one of the most archaic and classical centers of ancient Syros. For those looking for a bit of adventure, the small beach of Armeou behind the hill is known for attracting nudists. Don't miss the cave of St. Stephen, a popular attraction in Galissas. Legend has it that a fisherman named Stephen built the whitewashed church at the entrance of the cave to honor the saint who saved him from a giant octopus.
