Fira, the capital of Santorini, is a must-visit destination if you're planning a trip to Greece. Located 10 km away from the main port, Athinios, this charming town boasts a population of 1,600 permanent residents. Perched on a stunning cliff, 260 meters above the sea level, Fira offers an impressive panoramic view of the submerged volcano. Despite a devastating earthquake in 1956, Fira's 18th century buildings still stand tall today. The typical Cycladic village is made of charming white houses with blue windows and doors, connected by small, paved streets. The town's architecture features beautiful blue-domed churches and sun-bathed verandas that offer an incredible view of the volcano and the sunset. During the high season, central streets are bustling with tourists and shops, jewelry, restaurants, cafes, bars, and nightclubs. Fira offers a vast selection of hotels, most of which have swimming pools and verandas providing a superb view. While the caldera is the highlight of Santorini, Fira also boasts some interesting churches and a stunning architectural beauty that is a must-see for visitors. Plan a visit and stay in Fira of Santorini for an unforgettable experience.
