The central part of Lesvos housed the capital, Kaloni. The largest plain in this area has been deemed a protected site by the European Network of Natura 2000, where visitors can enjoy viewing rare bird species at the famous Kaloni Wetland attraction. Additionally, Kaloni is home to the grand Monastery of Limonos and features a fishing port and organized beach on its southern side. Multiple types of lodging options ranging from cafes to taverns are also available within this location along with a variety of shops for one to explore.
