Vathy is the capital and the main harbor of the island. It is built in the in most part of the gulf of the same name and dates back to 1500 AD. From the devastated earthquakes in 1953, few buildings remain standing as the others were constructed by residents. Vathy in Ithaca are many interesting sights to visit as churches and museums which house a collection of various findings from the Geometric period, the Mycenaean and the Corinthian periods.
