It owes its name to Malotira, a particular variety of herb that grows only on a mountain in Crete at an altitude of 900 meters. Malotira, then, is a tasteful deli corner in the historical center of Athens—more specifically in Plaka, behind the Cathedral of Athens—where you will find selected handmade, traditional, and organic products of young and small producers from all over Greece. The purpose of its creation was to fill the center of Athens with flavors and aromas from the village and the countryside. Its shelves are filled with a variety of homemade sauces, homemade jams, Cretan raki, homemade biscuits from Crete by "Dear Crete," kanelada and soumada, honey, herbs, loukoumia, oil, etc. Malotira in Athens also features a healthy corner where you can find products for vegans and not only, kale in three flavors by "Raw Foods," dried fruits, etc., and an organic corner with Naoumidis products. Note that Malotira is one of the proud supporters of Wise Greece, a non-profit organization that buys products from small producers with a social purpose and similar philosophy.
