Bourtzi was the first name of the Venetian castle that, together with Palamidi, is a trademark of Nafplio. It was built on the islet of Agioi  Theodoro i in 1473 by the Italian engineer Gabello.
The main purpose was to protect the town from the pirates plaguing the shores. It is a well preserved castle and to reach it, you must take a boat from the Nafplio port.
